Montura Hardshell jackets vary according to application and material. All Montura raincoats are characterized by a robust, high-quality workmanship and a reliable, permanent weather protection with excellent respiratory activity. For long trekking trips with heavy luggage and extreme weather conditions, technical jackets with sturdy 3.5-layer Gore-Tex Pro Shell membranes, such as the Montura Iron Jacket. Jackets with the Gore-Tex membrane, such as the Core Evo Jacket, are the perfect all-around jackets. The Gore-Tex Active Shell jackets and the new Gore-Tex-C-Knit jackets are gaining in popularity. They are lightweight, robust and especially suitable for fast, sweating activities. Thanks to their small pack size, they also fit into light daily pressure bags. Examples include the Color Jacket, the Magic G Jacket and the Starlight Jacket. Feather-like jackets with a small pack volume, ideal for trail and ultralrails are Montura jackets with a pro-meteo coating. These are also water and windproof and respiratory active. Examples are the Time Up Jacket and the Sprint Jacket.

The most important questions about hardshell / raincoats

How to wash raincoat?

Raincoats should be washed regularly and best with a special functional detergent. Alternatively, liquid detergents can also be used. The jackets should be at max. 40 degrees washed and only slightly spun, all zips and velcro closures should be closed. It is best to rinse the jacket a second time.

How often do raincoats wash?

Contrary to previous views, regular washing of the hardshell jackets is important in order to ensure the function in the long term. Sweat and dirt in the pores of the jackets have a water-absorbing effect, which means that the beading effect is lost and the jackets are sucked. This reduces the breathing activity and creates condensation on the inside of the jacket which gives the impression of a leaking jacket. The raincoats should therefore be washed at least four times a year, in case of higher pollution more often.

How to waterproof raincoat?

By washing the jackets the impregnation is already refreshed. Even the removal of the dirt has a positive effect on the Abperleffekt. For permanent care of the raincoats, however, an impregnating agent should be used. The most suitable is an intumescent impregnation. In contrast to the spraying impregnation, one reaches every point of the jacket.

How often do raincoats impregnate?

As a fist formula you can say, wash four times and then impregnate once more. Nikwax care products are suitable for example.

How must raincoat sit?

Since raincoats are usually worn both in summer and in winter, they should sit well with thick underwear but also with a T-shirt. The jacket should not be too tight, because you are so restricted in mobility, too far is not optimal, as the body cools faster at lower temperatures (heating the air through the body takes longer). The most suitable are therefore jackets with matching possibilities by elastic or manually by cord.
When cycling, it is important to ensure that the jacket is sufficiently long and should go over the buttocks even when the posture is flexed.

How does a raincoat work?

The membrane or coating of the jacket consists of small pores, which are large enough to allow water vapor, which is produced by sweating, to deviate outwards. However, they are too small to allow water to penetrate in liquid form. The rain therefore peels off. The weak points of a raincoat are always the seams which are unavoidable. However, these are taped from the inside with special tape tape.

Raincoat what?

There are raincoats with a membrane and jackets with a coating. Membrane jackets (e.g., Gore-Tex) are generally more robust and functional. These are generally more suitable, especially for activities with a higher and lasting load, eg through backpacks. Advantages of jackets with coating are usually the weight and the pack size, which results from the missing layer. This makes these jackets the perfect "always-doing" jackets, which offers quick protection from the weather.

What to wear under raincoat?

As raincoats form the outer layer in the onion principle, the size should be chosen so that a summer t-shirt, as well as in the winter a thick fleece or even a light down jacket fits under it. Classic hardshell jackets have no insulation layer of their own, they are only used for weather protection.

What is hardshell jacket?

In contrast to the softshell jacket, the hardshell jackets have a stiffer, firmer grip. Softshell jackets are softer. This is due to the use of these jackets. Hardshell jackets are intended to protect against rain, snow and wind, while soft-shell jackets are primarily intended to protect the wind.
